It looks awesome yongfook - looking forward to getting a go on it. Will be helpful for my new app I just released. Would you check it out? It's at http://optimizer.builtwith.com

    Cheers,

Looks very useful! is it a totally free app? I'm sure you can charge for a service like this.
  • garazy · 7 months ago
Thanks, no its freemium business model. Looking forward to getting on the beta of pea shoot to test it out with it!

The interface looks very neat and cool!
Might want to include some options to minimize certain screens (eg. Clicks section, Clicks from Country X section) so that there might be less visual clutter / information overload.
  • yongfook · 7 months ago
I think that's a good idea - I'd like to be able to make it so users can customize how their reports look, to prioritise what they want to show to their team / clients / management.

Looks really good. I loved it. One thing though, maybe you can try with a little bit more vertical margin between modules.

    Hi Yongfook

    peashoot looks very promising

but why do you need a redirecting clickcounting url for this service?

wouldnt it be possible to simple use url parameters for each campaign but keep the correct main url ?

    you could
track everything else directly on the page via javascript
socialmedia buzz can be counted via services similar to tweetback and technorati and co - or?

is this then getting to close to the territory of google analytics ?
  • yongfook · 7 months ago
    Andreas,

Good points. You are right, but the assumption you are making is that
you are able to edit the target pages and paste in Javascript. If you
think about the situation where you are working with clients, helping
them promote their brand / product - they are unlikely to let you
fiddle with their website code just for the sake of a campaign. Then
think about working with hundreds of different campaigns that spread
across various web properties - it's a lot of work to go and
physically edit all of those pages.

Perhaps you are thinking of using Peashoot to promote your own stuff,
where it's all on one website, where you own the servers and can
freely edit etc. I think the more appropriate customer segment for
Peashoot is marketing folk who are working with lots of different
clients / brands / products. Physically editing target pages in that
situation is impossible in most cases - I speak from experience on
    this too.

Also, one of the points of shrinking the url into something more
compact is being able to post it on social services where you're
limited with space. Or just having the benefit of not using ugly,
long links that have a lot of parameters stuck on the end - if someone
copy & pastes only half of the parameter string (for whatever reason)
your tracking might not work. A short url that redirects TO the full
url + tracking parameters would solve that.

On that note, integration with Google Analytics is something that we
will be building in (possibly for the public launch, depending on
demand) - and that is all based on passed url parameters. That's
going to be an option though, we don't assume that everyone is using
Google Analytics; or that people want to use Google analytics to view
this kind of data - if they do, that's up to them and Peashoot will
    provide the tools to integrate.

Hey I signed up for the beta some time ago, any chance of still making the list?
  • John · 7 months ago
Looks great Jon, so it's not going to be free correct? I recall you saying something like that. I love this concept and it seems very straight forward. Nicely done!
  • yongfook · 7 months ago
No, it won't be free. Free is not a business model that makes sense
for small businesses looking to grow, IMO.
  • John · 7 months ago
agreed, got anymore projects coming up other than this and sweetcron?
  • yongfook · 7 months ago
woah slow down! one app at a time :)

but yes, the launch schedule this year is for about 3 apps. All based
on a premium model - whether that's online pay-as-you-go or iPhone
apps (something I'm keen to start playing with).
  • mike · 7 months ago
wow, this looks massive! great work man!
  • Zak · 7 months ago
This is brilliant - spreading to several peers and friends.

The base idea of what you're doing and compiling the reporting as you are is flirting with the 'break the mold' kind of status.

Are you open to ideas that would essentially use the basic 'sniffing' technology you're making but for another purpose ? I've had an idea for about a year that I just didn't think would be doable --- until I stumbled upon your work.

I'd love to be in the pre-launch group when available.

Have been reading on Peashoot and I must say this is something I might have build if you didn't! My gripes with bit.ly is that it does not have aggregate/campaign options so you don't actually get to see an overview statistics of X no. of urls. Peashoot is looking great especially when you seem to do well with the UI portion which I am a sucker for.

I think Google Analytics integration is a win-win. It allows the user to compare statistics for say an article/landing page to see how many percent of it comes from the social media campaigns. It might be good to either tag the Peashoot expanded URLs with campaign params or just make use of the API to grab data and integrate into Peashoot's reports.

I believe I have already subscribed to the notification list but perhaps I am too far down the list. Would love to be in the pre-launch group! Cheers.
  • yongfook · 7 months ago
actually Peashoot already integrates with Google Analytics - when
building a custom campaign in Peashoot you have the option to append
    analytics params.

Was on Gum, am I on this pre-testing list too?
  • Cheryl Neo · 7 months ago
Congrats and somehow, I still cannot DM you on twitter, how silly.

Anyhoo...Looking good and I like the concept of a realtime graph to monitor the web activity - it's definitely useful when the proactive approach needs to take a reactive stance. Does it break down the tracking process to monitor peaks in traffic/chatter at the different times? And of course, you promised me a free account for rippl3, so I'm ready to trial Peashoot, with results and findings to share, of course (: All the best!
  • Nicola · 7 months ago
Congratulations! But i think u will have some problems with Google :-).
They not accept integrations with "app$" :-P
  • yongfook · 7 months ago
Not sure what you mean by that.

Perhaps you are referring to Google Search API not allowing commercial
($) applications to use it? Peashoot doesn't use the Google Search
    API.

    thanks for your comment anyway.
